What prospects are there for independence movements in a global era? Three previous Monash roundtables have analysed the causes of and prospects for separatist movements in Scotland, Catalunya and Ukraine.

But in a global era, independence and sovereignty can seem both a desirable goal and an ever-receding prospect. The final Monash Roundtable on separatism and independence will focus on calls for statehood in Europe, Asia and across the Islamic world and interrogate the meaning of sovereignty today.

Speakers:

Professor Greg Barton (Monash),
Associate Professor Sasa Pavkovic( Macquarie)
Dr Richard Joyce (Monash)

This roundtable will be recorded live for ABC Radio National’s Big Ideas program hosted by Paul Barclay.
