00 - Introduction

A number of Briefing Papers have been produced within PURE, both introducing the project and providing guidance for participating regions. These are listed below, and may be downloaded. We have also held two workshops, in Glasgow (in September 2008) and in Vancouver (in May 2009). Material from these workshops are also found below. PURE Review Visit in Queensland, Australia - December 2011

The latest PURE Review Visit (CDG Review Team Leader Professor Chris Duke) took place between December 5th and 8th in Queensland, Australia. The members of the team were based at Toowoomba and the photograph shows Bruce Wilson (right, with microphone); Chris Duke, Steve Garlick and Pat Inman also took part in the in the review discussions.

PASCAL engaged to measure and assess the community engagement needs for Darling Downs and south-west Queensland

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Southern Queensland (USQ) Professor Bill Lovegrove today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Regional Development Australia (RDA), to consider how collaborative partnerships can build on the long-term future for the Darling Downs and south-west Queensland.

NURA feasibility report

The Bradley Review in Australia recommended: 'That the Australian Government commission a study to examine the feasibility of a new national university for regional areas and, if the study indicates that a new national regional university is feasible, the Australian Government provide appropriate funding for its establishment and operation'. (Recommendation 17)

Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC): The Impact of Higher Education Institutions on Regional Economies 2005/06

This report of an ESRC Network on cross-regional perspectives on the transformative impact of higher education on disadvantaged groups and communities was produced in 2006, and involved PASCAL (Mike Osborne and Lesley Doyle) as well as colleagues at the Open University, the University of Salford and the University of East London. It will be of interest as a backdrop to our work within the PURE and PUMR projects.
