PURE Visit to Flanders - Belgium Government resigns

Dear All

Last Thursday. the Belgian cabinet resigned on the second day of the PURE visit to Flanders which has resulted in a fundamental constitutional crisis that threatens the future of the Belgian state. Barry Hake, who led the CDG wishes to point out that the PASCAL team were in no way responsible.

I might add that the University of Glasgow will not be using this event as an example of impact for the next Research Excellence Framework exercise carried out on behalf of the UK government.

The Informed Cities Initiative, Local Governments for Sustainability and the 6th European Sustainable Cities & Towns Conference

Dear All,

I've just picked up information about the Informed Cities initiative – making research work for local sustainability - from a colleague in Turku who is visiting me later this week. This is a European project funded under the Framework Programme 7, which aims to enhance the connectivity between research and policy-making in sustainable development, with a focus on tools for urban management.

Finland Bites

Dear Colleagues,

I am wondering if I can persuade you to engage by adding some trivia to my blog.

Did you know that in Finnish "PURE" means "bite"?

Secondly and possibly related, one interesting form of contribution of Helsinki City is to grow many hectares of broad beans that can be picked by citizens for their personal consumption (or bites). For those not wishing to bite, there are also hectares of sunflowers to pick as well, also supplied by the city.

Best wishes Mike
