"Breaking the cycle of disadvantage..."

The Council of the European Union has produced a Presidency discussion paper in preparation for the Council meeting (Education, Youth, Culture and Sport) on 18-19 November 2010, entitled "Breaking the cycle of disadvantage – the role of education in combating poverty, inequality and social exclusion".

According to Jan Gejel from the Aarhus Social and Health Care College in Denmark, who brought this to our attention, the paper clearly states that educational systems not only offer inclusion opportunities, but also produce more inequality. The bad news is that this inequality producing mechanism in education seems to be increasing.
